Mangere Budgeting Services Trust Celebrates Another Year of Empowering Communities

Mangere Budgeting Services Trust has wrapped up another successful year, taking significant steps to empower individuals and families towards financial independence and well-being.

In the 2023-2024 financial year, the Trust provided support to 3,100 clients through financial mentoring, delivered over 184 counseling sessions for whānau, and offered educational support and advice to 376 children. In total, over 5,000 one-on-one financial mentoring sessions were conducted, 1,100 whānau received housing support, and 1,087 individuals were connected to other community agencies and support services. Additionally, the Trust provided essential food relief to 7,900 people through its food bank.

In April 2024, the Trust, in partnership with Foodstuffs North Island, launched its innovative Social Supermarket model, replacing the traditional foodbank service. In just the first three months, this new initiative supported 300 whānau, fed over 1,000 people, and offered education on meal planning and budget-friendly shopping.

On a celebratory note, Mangere Budgeting Services Trust received the Financial Services Council’s Highly Commended award for the second consecutive year.

Our Chief Executive Lara Dolan expressed her pride in the organisation’s accomplishments and its ongoing impact on the community.

"We couldn't have achieved this without the unwavering support of our partners—Foodstuffs, Kiwi Harvest, Mangere Pack-n-Save, Sanitarium, Wattis, Fonterra, Ingham Chicken, Ministry of Social Development and many others," Dolan said. She also extended her heartfelt thanks to the Trust’s hardworking staff and board, whose support allowed the organisation to innovate and thrive.

The award highlights the Trust’s commitment to creating positive change in the community, and Congratulations go to the entire team for this well-deserved recognition.
